Spay/Neuter
What is Spay/ Neuter
The surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus of a female to prevent prgnancy or the removal of the testicles of males to prevent them from impregnating females.
Why Do We Spay/Neuter?
- Spayed/ Neutered pets are, typically better behaved.
- Neutered males will not develop testicular cancer and their risk for prostate cancer is greatly reduced.
- Spaying your female before she goes into heat for the first time will greatly reduce the risk of breast cancer and eliminates the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer.
- Male cats are less likely to spray urine and mark their territory, especially if neutered prior to developing this habit.
- Spaying a dog or cat eliminates her heat cycle, thereby eleiminating regular bleeding and the nervous behavior that often accompanies the heat cycle.
- Spay/neuter decreases the homeless animal population and, in turn, decreases the rate of euthanasia in shelters.
- Spay/neuter decreases the number of strays, which are often involved in dog bites and attacks, automobile accidents, and damage to private property.
