RAYS HOLD “BARK IN THE PARK” AT TROPICANA FIELD

ALONG WITH RAYS WIVES PET FOOD DRIVE

ST. PETERSBURG, FL—The Tampa Bay Rays will host their second Bark in the Park event of the season at Tropicana Field on Sunday, June 16 during the Rays-Royals game at 1:40 p.m.  A special seating area is reserved for dog owners and their pets, and the tbt* Party Deck will turn into the “Dog Zone,” with product samples, the SPCA of Tampa Bay pet adoption booth and activities for both dogs and their owners.

 Also during the event, the Rays Wives will hold a pet food drive to benefit the Pet Pal Animal Shelter. The Rays Wives will be collecting both dog and cat food to assist the shelter’s effort to give every pet a nutritious meal.  Pet Pal Animal Shelter dogs and cats are fed Science Diet to maintain healthy and balanced digestion while they are in the shelter.

 Donations for the Rays Wives Pet Food Drive will be collected in the tbt* Party Deck from the time gates open at 11:40 a.m. through the conclusion of the second inning.  The pet food drive will also return during the Rays final Bark in the Park game on Sunday, August 18.

 For ticket information and to purchase the special dog package, please log on to raysbaseball.com/dogday.  All dogs must have the required vaccinations and must be leashed (no retractable leashes) and licensed.  The Rays reserve the right to deny any dog or dog owner entrance to Tropicana Field and the Bark in the Park event for any reason they may see fit.

1. CALM DOWN!  Petting a cat is calming, as are other aspects of caring for cats. When you are concerned with caring for another creature, it can help you take your mind off your worries.

2. YOU DON’T HAVE TO WALK THEM!  Unlike dogs who need to be walked outside, cats don’t make you go out 2-3 times a day when it’s too hot or too cold.
3. THEY GO TO THE BATHROOM ALONE! Cats are smart enough to be able to use the washroom. They don’t need to be let out to do on the ground for you to pick up.
4. THEY DON’T NEED A LOT OF ROOM! Dogs take up a lot of room — from a bed to toys and lots of food. Cats, all they need is the top of a couch to sit on.

5. THEY DON’T BARK!  When cats are angry, they hiss, which is quite quiet.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL—For the second consecutive season, every home run hit by Rays All-Star third baseman Evan Longoria will benefit the Pet Pal Animal Shelter, a no-kill, nonprofit shelter in St. Petersburg.  For every home run he hits during the 2013 season, Longoria will join Bright House Sports Network, the Rays and Ducky’s Sports Lounge to each donate $100 to the shelter.

Longoria and his girlfriend, Jaime Edmondson, have two rescue dogs, Jango, an eight-year-old bull terrier and Tatum, a four-year-old Boerboel Mastiff.

“We were so thrilled last year to have been chosen by Evan and Jaime,” said Scott Daly, Executive Director of Pet Pal Animal Shelter.  “We look forward to saving even more lives this year with the help of this magnificent Fundraiser.”

“Jaime and I are thankful to be a in a position that allows us to continue to support the great work being done by Pet Pal,” Longoria said.  “We’re also grateful to Bright House Sports Network and the Rays for their continued support. Hopefully we can increase this year’s donation.”

Despite missing more than half of last season with a partially torn left hamstring, Longoria hit 17 home runs leading to a $6,000 donation to Pet Pal.

Pet Pal Animal Shelter is a no-kill nonprofit organization committed to rescuing dogs and cats from animal shelters that may otherwise be euthanized due to time limitations, illness, injuries or lack of socialization and training.  Pet Pal is also dedicated to educating the public about the pet overpopulation crisis, the importance of spaying/neutering and responsible pet ownership.
